Practice Standards

Code of Professional Conduct – Practice Standards

All CLU advisors voluntarily adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct. The principles in the Code set out the foundations upon which all client and peer relationships are based.

These Standards identify specific actions that advisors must take when dealing with their clients and colleagues. If advisors fail to incorporate these standards of practice, they are open to disciplinary action or, worse, a costly professional liability claim.

The Practice Standards direct advisors on what to do, but they do not specify how to do it. The Advocis Best Practices Manual gives concrete examples on how advisors can best incorporate Practice Standards into their everyday client relationships.

The three macro Standards are:

  • Risk Assessment (in which there are three parts)
  • Implementing the Plan, and
  • Review and Revise

Practice Standard 1 – Risk Assessment

Practice Standard 2 - Implementing the Plan

Practice Standard 3 - Review and Revise
